Bug fix

July 8th, 2011

Well some one finally found a bug in Takeway Orders.  It was so bad that it generated a force close.  Actaully other people may have found the bug before, but some one (no idea who) actaully clicked on the Report button. (thanks for that).

Anyway, the bug was when in the library area of the app, and if you attempted to Load a library menu with no previous menu saved, it would force close.  My fault for not testing this.  I have since updated the application so that if there is no menu’s from the library to load, the load button is greyed out.

Total time from when I logged into the developers portal and saw the error to publishing the updated version 10 minutes.

2 minutes to start up Eclipse
1 minute to open the class that had the error
1 minute to ID where the error is
1 minute to try the error on my Galaxy tab and report it
30 seconds to confirm same error in the market place
1 minute to update the code to disable when nothing to load
1 minute to start up the emulator test the error and then push the updated version and retest with the fix.
30 seconds to package and sign the APK
2 minutes to upload and publish new verions

One thing about reporting force close errors, please be more descriptive.  The first person who reported the error simply said “Doesn’t work”.  Not a single thing about what menu/page they were on or what they were doing that caused it.

And end to problems

May 15th, 2011

well for a few weeks now, my bike has been off the road waiting for a service.  Problem its my motorbike is not any normal bike, but an Electric Motorbike.  And not just any bike shop can or will service the engine.  They have no problem with the brakes, tyres and other parts that are in common with regular petrol bikes, but they have a problem doing all the other parts in which a slip of a screw driver can short the bike and if you are not lucky, yourself as well. Less than a month in.

May 8th, 2011

Well, its been 4 weeks, and today “TakeAway Orders” reached a kilometer kilogram! Okay that should read milestone, and as you see, bringing imperial measurements up to metric, doesn’t always work, even though a mile stone is both a measurement of distance and of weight (the large weighted stone that the mile marker was carved into).

But I digress,  What milestone was reached? Yesterday I had 49 active installs,  today it is 52.  Actually the stat’s may be skewed.  They read

123 total
52 active installs (42 %)

So I have had 123 people install this application, and at least 52 are actively using it, or (the more likely case) haven’t bothered to un-install it.  But either way – Woot!

Break down

Based on number it breaks down to:

1
Android 2.2
78.8% (41)
2
Android 2.1
19.2% (10)
3
Android 2.3
1.9% (1)

These stat’s are fairly easy to understand.

Now the country break down, which still shows my demographic is totally strange.

1
United Kingdom
57.7% (30)
2
United States
17.3% (9)
3
Australia
9.6% (5)
4
India
3.8% (2)
5
Oman
1.9% (1)
6
Malaysia
1.9% (1)
7
Thailand
1.9% (1)
8
Canada
1.9% (1)
9
Japan
1.9% (1)
10
Ireland
1.9% (1)

Results?

So far no feed back about problems with the application, so I can take it as a good sign.  However, given the high number of UK users, I think I am going to go back and revisit the application and at least regionalize the currency (currently its hard coded to $).  The only problem I foresee with this, is that I am unsure about properly testing it in all regions.

Well, I shall get to this update this week, and plan to publish it by Friday.

One Week On.

April 18th, 2011

Well its been 1 week with my TakeAway Orders application published in the android market place, and so far 28 People have downloaded and installed it.  I don’t know if that is good or bad numbers,  but I do know that I don’t know my demographic.

The break down of those 28 people is strange and as of this morning:

1
United Kingdom
53.6% (15)
2
United States
21.4% (6)
3
Australia
10.7% (3)
4
India
3.6% (1)
5
Japan
3.6% (1)
6
Canada
3.6% (1)
7
Germany
3.6% (1)

So far no feed back or comments from anybody, only 2 rates (of 4.5 total).  I suppose that is a good thing, given that no body has reported any bugs, or that the in App Store bug report/counting hasnt shown any bug/force close reports.

TakeAway Orders

April 10th, 2011

My information to come later.

Why Black Fish Crossing?

April 10th, 2011

Why?  Why not.  Why call anything, anything at all?

A walk way to cross a road would function just as well being called a black fish crossing.

See? Zebra crossing or black fish crossing.  the exact same camouflage technique that occur on the African plains, also occur in the coral reefs in the sea, yet do we call these convenient methods of the fish?  It would have served the same function.  (an no they are not actually called black fish).

Anyway, that’s why this domain is called blackfishcrossing.net.  It serves a function.  It could have just as easily been called fakefurcarseatcover.com.  Something truely out there, but in the end has no bearing on the fact that you are reading this web page and its located here.
